HOW WE STARTED
In 1999, Ron Dennis decided to hang up his hammer
and leave the field of carpentry. He went on to
consult for a commercial maintenance company
where he managed the division. Not happy with the
work he was doing, he decided on another career
change. It was time for him to go back to what he
loved to do - fix stuff. Ron had always repaired his
own vehicles, repaired equipment, and welded things
back together. So he made the decision to open up a
repair shop in Illinois, and I guess you could say the
rest was history.
Diana Dennis went to college to become a travel
agent, which had great benefits for seeing the world,
but was not so good on the pocketbook. She then
took those skills to the corporate world and worked
as an executive assistant for many years. While
working, she managed the books for the repair shop
in Illinois until the shop got so busy, she worked
there full-time. She’s been known to help out in the
shop when not buried in paperwork in the front
office.
In 2016, Ron and Diana decided they needed a
change in scenery. They had been coming to Crystal
Falls for a few years to go snowmobiling. On a cold
January night, Diana told Ron that she could live in
the Upper Peninsula. They were fortunate to find the
perfect location for the shop, found a house, and
moved to Crystal Falls in 2017.
WHY WE ARE IN BUSINESS
One thing they noticed about Crystal Falls was that
there wasn’t a repair shop that worked on diesels or
heavy equipment. Their specialty is repairing light,
medium and heavy-duty trucks. They could offer their
new community services that they were missing.
In Illinois, their repair shop was known for fixing
things other shops couldn’t. Ron’s attention to detail,
and the fact that he’s determined to solve problems,
made businesses they worked with comeback time
and time again.
WHY OLD SCHOOL REPAIR IS
DIFFERENT
At Old School Repair, they solve problems, not throw
parts at them. Ron is one of the few mechanics in the
area to hold 19 out of the 20 State of Michigan
automotive mechanic certifications. So literally, there’s
nearly nothing he can’t fix. Old School Repair offers
services on diesel and gas trucks, no matter the size of
the vehicle. They have the largest automotive lift in the
area which is capable of lifting 18,000 lbs.
They also repair heavy equipment such as skid steers,
back hoes, farm tractors and snowplows.
